Get Ready To Ride The Chandigarh Metro

Chandigarh - The City Beautiful, is all set to get a rapid transport system: Chandigarh Metro. This will be a state of art metro which will connect the tricity - Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali. Central government has already signed a MOU with Punjab & Haryana government and the construction work on Chandigarh Metro Rail Project is just about to start.

Total 16 Metro Trains Planned.
10 Metro trains to run on East West corridor and 6 on North South Corridor. Each Metro Train to have 4 Coaches.
First metro to start at 5:30 AM and the last metro is planned for 10:30 PM

Total 30 Metro Stations Planned.
Sector 17, 22, 35, 43, Housing Board and Phase 7 to have bigger metro stations. The main Metro Station will be at Sector 17, which will be an intersection point for north-south and east-west corridors.

In the first phase, North South Corridor will run from Capital Complex Sector 17 to Mohali covering 12.47 Kms.
East West Corridor will run from Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) to sector 21, Panchkula covering 25.08 Kms.

CMRC has deceided to run the first metro train from 5:30 AM on the east west corridor and 6:00 AM on north south corridor. The timings for the last metro have been deceided to be 10:30 PM.
No night service will be provided.

The minimum fare to travel in metro from one station to another station will be Rs. 6.
The maximum fare has been kept at Rs. 36. CMRC has also planned to introduce prepaid smart cards which could be recharged from Rs. 50 to Rs. 1000.

Just like DMRC, the core team for Chandigarh Metro will be CMRC (Chandigarh Metro Rail Corporation). This committee will be directly come under the Central Government and their official website will come soon
