City Gets a New Shopping Destination & It’s at the Chandigarh Model Jail

Who doesn’t love shopping? Everyone does!

In one of its kind initiative, Chandigarh Administration has opened a new shopping complex in the Model Jail situated in Sector 51 and anyone can go there for shopping. Now that’s shocking, isn’t it? But yeah, it’s true. 

This shopping complex has been build at a cost of Rs. 1.33 crore and has been inaugurated by Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher. Inspector- General of prisons A S Cheema, Chief Architect Kapil Setia, additional IG Ranjit Kaur, and Chief Engineer Mukesh Anand were also present during the inauguration ceremony of this shopping complex at Chandigarh Model Jail.

Shopping Complex in Chandigarh Model Jail

You’d be having this question in mind that why would a jail need a shopping complex? Well, this shopping complex will facilitate the jail employee and families of all the inmates. Apart from them, it will serve people living nearby who were demanding a market or some shops in the area. The shopping complex at Chandigarh Model Jail also includes a room where all the products made by the inmates will be sold.

This new shopping complex will facilitate the visitors, the jail staff and residents of sector 51. Earlier there was no such complex for residents of Sector 51 and thus it would serve a larger audience.

While you still might be thinking that who would like to go to a jail even if it is for shopping. Let us tell you that in order to go to this newly constructed shopping complex, you would not have to enter the jail. A separate entry gate has been made along with a parking space of 250 cars.

According to the sources there will be four shops in the complex in which two of them will be kept for eatables other two would be for other things.

This unique idea of having shopping complex in jail will make everything easy for inmates who can now work and sell their products and able to show their aptitude through their labor. Even the residents of sector 51 will not have to go far off to buy something.
