Chandigarh witnesses first fog of the winter season: December 2014

The minimum temperature in Chandigarh is consistently going down by a few degrees every week since the start of December. However it was today i.e. 17th of December when the residents of Chandigarh encountered heavy fog on city roads.

The MET department of Chandigarh had already issued a notice few days back that city will see a thick fog in the coming days. This weather report of Chandigarh came after the heavy rainfall which lashed the union territory on 14th and 15th December (Saturday and Sunday). Weather was very clear on Monday as well as Tuesday but suddenly thick fog engulfed Chandigarh on Wednesday.

Fog in the morning came as a surprise to the residents of Chandigarh when they went out of their houses to pick newspapers or some other works. People who go to offices early by 8:00 am or 9:00 had a tough time on the city roads. Tough the minimum temperature in Chandigarh has been recorded at 7 degrees Celsius but it seems like like it is much below than 7. It is a fact that when people see fog on the city roads, they feel more cold. People travelling on two wheelers were seen completely packed up with jackets and mufflers. Vehicles on Chandigarh roads were seen with their headlights on till 11:00 am in the morning. Fog had started to decline by 10:00 am.

The first fog was so thick that its impact could be seen even on the inside roads and streets of each sector. Road, rail and ait traffic has been hit. Chandigarh-Delhi train was delayed due to this thick fog. Road traffic on th Chandigarh-Delhi highway was also hit as vehicles were seen moving at a slow pace with their headlights on.

Here’s a tip in this foggy weather of Chandigarh: Drive slow, be careful and don’t forget to wear your jackets, mufflers and gloves.
