Chef of Hotel Taj in Chandigarh Gets 1 Year Jail for Unhygienic Kitchen

In one of its kind incident, the chef of a 5-star hotel in Chandigarh – Hotel Taj has been sentenced to one year jail as he was found to be preparing food items in unhygienic conditions. The chef – Neeraj Chaudhary is a resident of Sector 37 Chandigarh and was serving as a chef as well as a Beverages manager at Hotel Taj in Sector 17 Chandigarh.

In a court case hearing about the incident, chief judicial magistrate Akashdeep Mahajan sentenced the chef to 1 year imprisonment and also made him stand for the whole day in the court premises.

Details of the incident:

The incident when this chef at Taj Cahndigarh was found preparing meals in an unhygienic condition dates back to year 2010. It was during an inspection that the food inspector Surinder Singh visited Taj and found the chef preparing food items in an unethical way. He submitted his report on the same which mentioned that chef was found storing, preparing & selling food items in an unhygienic condition.

Taking a serious note of the quality of food which is served to people who visit the 5 star hotel, Chandigarh court finally gave its decision and sentenced that particular chef to 1 year jail.

In any hotel, it is the responsibility of chefs to prepare meals and make sure that the kitchen is properly clean while they are preparing meals.

Was the kitchen at Taj Chandigarh really unhygienic?

While the report of the food inspector who visited Taj definitely said that the kitchen where chef was preparing food was not up to the mark. There was a court case that went on for more than 5 years. Taj authorities were defending the case by saying that a senior Chandigarh Administration officer came to the hotel and he got this false case to take revenge as he was told to pay the bill for his food.

However, Taj lost the case the the chef has been sentenced to 1 year jail.
