PPP protests to rename Chandigarh International Airport as Shaheed-E-Azam International Airport

Chandigarh International Airport has been a topic of news every now and then since its announcement. This time again, it is regarding the name of Chandigarh International Airport whose new terminal falls in Mohali, Punjab. Members of PPP (People’s Party of Punjab) today protested outside the airport and demanded the authorities to rename Chandigarh International Airport as Shaeed-E-Azam International Airport.

PPP took out a rally from the airport to Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mohali where they submitted a memorandum to SAS Nagar DC, Tejinder Sidhu. The activists said that the airport should be named on Punjab’s martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

PPP said that the central government had already agreed to name Chandigarh International Airport as Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport or Shaheed Udham Singh International Airport. Even after the approval, no name has been finalized and the airport is still called Chandigarh International Airport at Mohali. The confusion about naming the airport is so much that even AAI (Airport Authority of India) is not clear about the name of International airport at Chandigarh. A decision on the airport’s name needs to be taken soon.
