Shimla Receives Surprise Snowfall on Holi (March 2015)

Year 2015 seems to be a great one for Shimla in regard to Snowfall. The hill station has already witnessed 5 snowfall sessions in the first two months of 2015 i.e. Jan and Feb. It was on the eve of Holi, the festival of colours that Shimla was once again covered with a white blanket of snow. Normally, Shimla has never seen snowfall in the month of March. But this time, residents of the city and tourists from Chandigarh who went uphill to celebrate Holi were taken for a big surprise when it suddenly started to snow on Friday, 7th of March, 2015. People were seen playing with fresh snow by hitting each other with coloured snow balls.

It rained in Chandigarh and surrounding areas, a night before Holi but Friday was a sunny day. A little chill was felt in the air during the evening at Chandigarh due to snowfall in Shimla. MET department of Himachal Pradesh had predicted rainfall in Shimla on the eve of Holi. But the snowfall took everyone by surprise.

Along with Shimla, upper hills of Kufri, Narkanda, Kotkhai also received snowfall. On the other side, hill stations of Kullu and Manali also received mild snowfall. The minimum temperature in Sihimla went down to 1.7 degrees while Manali recorded a minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees.

It seems that winters still want to be around the corner for long. The first week of march is over and we are getting the news of snowfall in Shimla on 7th March 2015. The weather is becoming so unpredictable. But whatever it is, this surprise snow in Himachal Pradesh has brought cheers to tourists.
