HRTC (Himachal Road Transport Corporation) has received an approval to run 50 electric buses in Shimla. These buses will be zero-emission electric buses. According to the sources, the State Road Transport Corporation of Himachal Pradesh had chosen two electric stations i.e Dhalli & Shoghi.
Furthermore CGM, HRTC said that the Himachal Pradesh Raod Transport Corporation have already asked the HP State Electricity Board (HPSEB) to provide power supply on the recharging Stations at Dhalli and Shoghi. Shoghi is 12.2 Km far from the Shimla Tutikandi ISBT and 14 Km far from the OLD ISBT Shimla. While Dhalli is approximately 18.4 Km far from Old Shimla ISBT and 22.2 Km far from the ISBT Tutikandi Shimla.
Each Electric Bus Will Cost Rs.40 Lakh
According to the HRTC Managers. Himachal has given its approval to fund 40 percent of the cost of electric buses. The remaining cost of the buses will be bourne by the Ministry of Heavy Industries. According to the CGM HRTC, Aminder Gupta, the Himachal Pradesh Government has given the approval for buying the electric buses and the same proposal has been sent to the Centre Government.
The price of each electric bus is Rs.70 Lakh. The cost of the bus has come down because the battery used in the bus costs less now. There are multiple companies who are making batteries. Many States of India are now switching to the electric buses.
Aminder Gupta, CGM, HRTC also said that HRTC is getting those rechargeable batteries which can cover a distance of 200 Km. The best thing about these batteries is that they don’t need a facility of cooling. These batteries can operate at a temperature of 55 degrees Celsius. the length of the electric buses would be approximately 7 meters and these buses would be capable to carry around 40 passengers.
25 Deluxe Electric Buses Between Manali and Rohtang
Himachal Road Transport Corporation is yet to run 25 deluxe electric buses from Manali to Rohtang as coordinated by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The cost of these 25-seater 25 deluxe electric buses was Rs1.9 crore each, right around two times more than the HRTC is acquiring now, on the grounds that the previous are top of the line and were brought a year back.
