After the recommendation of the 7th pay commission, the employees of the central government now expected to get a hike in their salaries soon. The minimum basic salary was recommended to get hiked to Rs 21,000 and giving their nod to it, the central government has even clarified that the basic minimum pay will not be fixed at Rs 18,000, but can vary as the pay scale and the grade pay.
7th pay commission; DA, HRA revision updates
Not only minimum basic pay will get a hike on the implementation of the 7th pay commission but the DA, HRA and other allowances of the central government employees will also get revised. The HRA alone that has variants of the 8 per cent, 16 per cent and 24 per cent of the new basic pay will see the revision of 9 per cent, 18 per cent and 27 per cent. The dearness allowance (DA) may cross 25 per cent, which may further increase to 30 per cent, 20 per cent and 10 per cent when it crosses 50 per cent.
Benefits of 7th pay commission to central government employees
Talking about the HRA revision, there are over 7.5 lakh central government employees who will benefit from the restructured HRA and DA. HRA includes almost 60 per cent of the per day pay of an employee of the central government while for DA, the government decides the lowest categories of employees to give away them the minimum floor rate of HRA. If the HRA gets revised as per the 7th pay commission, an employee of the central government will get Rs 5,400, Rs 3,600 and Rs 1,800 on the basis of the city the employee lives in.
As mentioned by one of the officials, the allowances under the 7th pay commission including HRA will be calculated at the percentage of 10, 20 and 30 of the minimum basic pay of Rs 18,000. Against the 7th Pay Commission’s recommendation for 95 allowances, the central government has decided to retail 108 allowances. However, the center has also decided to scrap 43 allowances against 53 recommendation that were supposed to be abolished. The central government is yet to take a decision regarding the 12 allowances to the railways.
