Over 70 vehicles got blacklisted at Rohtang Pass in Manali Himachal Pradesh for violation directions of the NGT and Manali District Administration. The snow capped mountains at Rohtang Pass in Manali, Himachal Pradesh is one of the best tourist destinations at the height of 3978 m above sea level but the influx of a large number of tourists are making this place unclean.

During the summer season, when the roads are open, thousands and thousands of tourists and travelers from around the world visit this place. It’s one expedition is an experience of a life- time all but it seems that maintaining its beauty is turning out to be a project for the administration.

What is the complaint of Rohtang Pass all about

A few years back, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the district administration of Manali in Himachal Pradesh to limit the number of vehicles going to Rohtang Pass every day. The decision was made to help the Rohtang La also known as Rohtang Pass from ruining its beauty. The limited number of vehicles per day would also limit the number of visitors to the spot while lessening the pollution there.

This year, the road to Rohtang Pass for tourists were opened on May 23. But as soon as the services started, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Manali, Himachal Pradesh received lot many complaints about the local taxi drivers and their operators about violations of NGT directions. After the NGT has allowed only 1200  including 800 petrol and 400 diesel vehicles to enter Rohtang Pass in a day, many local taxi drivers are seeking permits for Lahaul- Spiti which can be reached via Rohtang Pass. In the pretext of going to Lahaul – Spiti, these taxi drivers are carrying visitors to Rohtang Pass and in that case, the number of vehicles comes out to be higher than what is permitted on per day basis.

Action taken against the 70 vehicle operator of Rohtang Pass

However, the authorities at Manali, Himachal Pradesh are providing two types of permits. One permit is up till Rohtang Pass at Rs 550 and other Rs 600 for Lahaul Spiti, which the violating taxi operators are getting by paying just Rs 50 extra.

Now the Manali Administration has found out those 70 violators and has blacklisted their vehicles from entering to Rohtang Pass in Himachal Pradesh for next 15 days. The administration has also warned those 70 vehicle operators of blacklisting them permanently if their violation is repeated.
