After Bird Flu, now Swine Flu strikes Chandigarh: Jan 2015

Chandigarh Administration yesterday confirmed the first case of Swine Flu in Chandigarh where a 20 year old female residing in sector 42 was found positive for H1N1 virus (Swine Flu). She went for a general check-up at Max Hospital, Mohali with flu like symptoms. The hospital authorities after examining the patient, informed the Chandigarh health Department as soon as they got the Swine Flu test reports.

Director of Health Services, Dr. V K Gagneja said that isolated wards have already been set up at hospitals in Chandigarh and quick reaction teams have been formed to deal with swine flu cases in Chandigarh. However, the woman has been quarantined (kept isolated) at her residence.

If you have any of the symptoms mentioned above, you should consult a doctor immediately. Special screening centres have been set up at PGI, Government Hospital, Sector 16 as well as Government Hospital, Sector 32.

This is the first confirmed case of Swine flu in Chandigarh. During the investigations, it was revealed that the patient’s cousin had visited her from abroad last week. It is now supposed that this deadly virus might have been transmitted by cough or sneezing during that time. Few days back, a lady died of Swine Flu in New Delhi and many other case have been confirmed. Recently, 8 people died of Swine Flu in Andhra Pradesh. Swine flu had struck Chandigarh last year as well which resulted in 3 deaths in the city.
