After failure to start international flights from newly constructed Chandigarh International Airport since long, it seems that airlines are now trying to win the race of operating first international flight from this Airport.
Just a week after Indigo airlines announced their direct Chandigarh – Dubai, Air India came up with an announcement of operating direct flight between Chandigarh & Sharjah.
Indigo’s Chandigarh – Dubai Flight
After a wrath from Punjab & Haryana High Court, it was Indigo Airlines that came forward and finally announced their direct Chandigarh to Dubai flight. As per the announcement by Indigo, their Chandigarh Dubai flight would be a daily flight and the first flight has been scheduled to take off from Chandigarh International Airport on 26th September.
All tickets in the introductory price for Indigo’s Chandigarh – Dubai direct flight were sold in a couple of days.
Air India’s Chandigarh – Sharjah Flight
After seeing such a huge response for international flights from Chandigarh, Air India came forward and announced a direct Chandigarh to Sharjah flight. However, this Air India flight from Cahndigarh to Sharjah would be operated thrice a week but the airlines announced that their first flight from Chandigarh International Airport will take off on 15th September.
You’ll be surprised to know that even Air India got a fabulous response to ticket sales as the airlines was able to sell majority of their tickets at introductory price on the very first day.
Earlier, none of the airlines was coming forward to initiate international flights from Chandigarh Airport and now they seem to be in a race to win the title of operating first international flight from Chandigarh Airport. Both these flights had expressed interest in operating international flights from Chandigarh airport but were reluctant in the beginning to start operations.
The first international flight from Chandigarh is finally here and we are super happy. With these 2 flights (Chandigarh – Dubai) as a daily flight and (Chandigarh – Sharjah) as thrice a week, lot of business, trade and tourism is expected between the city beautiful & Gulf region.

Air India has started a flight from Chandigarh to Sharjah.
The distance between Dubai & Sharjah is just 37 Kilometers and it takes 25 minutes by road to reach Dubai from Sharjah.
We mean why airlines are choosing these cities? Maybe a direct international flight to some other parts of the world would be much more beneficial.
