Chandigarh’s most happening sector 26 has almost lost its spark after the Supreme court banned the liquor vends within 500 metres of national and state highways. It has been almost 1.5 months since the bars, microbreweries and liquor vends in Sector 26 Chandigarh.

The owners of bars and microbreweries in Sector 26 Chandigarh have finally decided to shift their businesses to Industrial Area, Phase 1 Chandigarh. A lot of bars and microbreweries which were shut down in Sector 26 Chandigarh will be coming up in Industrial Area Phase 1, Chandigarh.

Sector 26 Chandigarh’s Bars And Microbreweries To Relocate To Industrial Area, Phase 1

The people of Chandigarh have been facing a “Brewed Beer Crisis” as all the major breweries in Sector 26 Chandigarh were shut down. Showrooms in the malls like Berkley Square, Centra Mall, Godrej Eternia and Emporium Mall were lying vacant and now the rates of these vacant showrooms have increased. The hotel owners feel that Industrial Area region has a potential to be the next happening hub of Chandigarh as the area has Elante mall and other hotels which attract a lot of people.

A local resident had planned to open a microbrewery in Sector 26 Chandigarh but as soon as the liquor vends were banned in the sector, he purchased a roof at the Berkeley Square. A brand named Barcelona is also coming up at the Berkley Square.

Ministry Of Bar Exchange (MOBE) which was located in Sector 26 Chandigarh will be relocating to City Emporium Mall.

The Relocated Hotels And Microbreweries

Apart from Ministry of Bar Exchange, five more hotels and breweries which located in Sector 26 Chandigarh and Zirakpur have relocated to different places. Some of them have been relocated to Godrej Eternia building where the monthly rent of the outlet is Rs. 10 Lakh. The owners are facing a big problem as the rent here is more than what they used to pay in Sector 26 Chandigarh. Six business including the Kingdom of Beer has moved to Godrej Eternia as they have no other option.

The owner of Kingdom Of Beer said that they paid Rs. 6.5 Lakh monthly in Sector 26 Chandigarh and now the rent has increased to Rs. 10 Lakh per month. The Kingdom Of Beer was almost ready for the inauguration but the Supreme Court declared Madhya Marg as a state highway due to which the microbrewery was shut down.

Microbreweries To Relocate To Godrej Eternia Building

The owner of Godrej Eternia building said that they are in touch with the six microbreweries. He said that they are also in touch with some other microbreweries too. The construction of the clubs at the Godrej Eternia will be starting very soon. The owner of Kingdom Of Beer said that they will relocate the microbrewery after July as everything is very uncertain as there are rumours that the Supreme Court might denotify Madhya Marg as a state highway.

A property dealer in Industrial Area Phase 1 said that there are a lot of enquiries from the hotel owners who are planning to relocate to Industrial Area. Due to the increasing demand, the property rates have increased from Rs 70 per square foot to Rs. 125-150 square foot.
