4G internet service is being launched in Chandigarh very soon and it is providing much ahead of the existing 4G services already existent in the city. This service is being launched by the state-owned BSNL. This BSNL service is at non-commercial basis as of now and is promising a blazing speed of 100 MBPS (Megabits per second) in the city.

A 4G Internet service is launched in the city by BSNL, though, on a non-commercial basis only for BSNL employees but BSNL customers can experience it by being at a nearby 4G centre. But according to advertisements of the company, customers are being promised a 4G speed with upto 100 MBPS on its Long Term Evolution (LTE) based 4G mobile service. This spectrum of 4G by BSNL is now already being used all over India except Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Kolkata.

BSNL is the first ones to have started a 4G service in the 2500 MHz band. This company is planning the next idea in the hierarchy after running the proof of concept developed, its wanting to develop its reach on a large scale basis. As per the sources say, this company will be issuing a Request For Proposal (RFP) next month for launching BSNL 4G services at places where they can make 2500 MHz band available at a revenue share basis.

BSNL Chairman and Managing Director Anupam Shrivastava said that company is trying to tie-up with reliance jio to provide 4G services to their customers using their network. The company is expanding its model of providing the users with a bandwidth only and all the infrastructure to be developed by the other partner. The company selected through RFP will get the benefits claimed and the revenue will be shared between the company and the successful bidder.

BSNL is planning to exchange the services with Reliance jio, with the perspective of providing 2G and 3G to reliance customers and in exchange get 4G services for BSNL users. Some technicalities are pending to be tackled between inter-working of two networks but it is being acclaimed that those issues may be sorted out very soon. After these issues get sorted out, BSNL will be looking forward to having a permission from telecom ministry and an agreement will be then finalized between Reliance Jio and BSNL. 4G wi-fi hotspots is being looked forward as a best way to start with the service. Already 620 wi-fi hotspots are installed already and company will be installing 2500 wifi hotspots by the end of this financial year and during the next cycle its aim is to install 40000. All this will be done based on revenue share and capital expenditure model.
