Investment in setting up 1 lakh Wi-Fi spots across India

According to reports, BSNL will invest more than 1, 000 crores to set up a major number of Wi-Fi hotspots in India. The company is believed to invest around Rs. 1,800 crores in setting up 70,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in the country.

Apart from this number, the Universal Service Obligation Fund will provide a fund of Rs. 900 crores for setting up 25,000 hotspots in India. The amount of Rs 900 crores that will be provided by USOF will also include three years of operation and maintenance.

In addition to these, the remaining 5,000 Wi-Fi hotspots will be set up on revenue share basis. As per reports, BSNL will not invest capital on these 5,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, it will only provide bandwidth, else all the expenses will be borne by the collaborating partner.

BSNL’s GST revenue generating app

BSNL’s idea behind creating the GST app is to utilize it for generating revenue. According to the company spokesperson, a new entrant in the telecom sector has changed the dynamics of doing business in the sector. Due to this change, tariffs are going rock bottom and all the players are exploring other models for revenue generation.

To materialize BSNL’s idea of creating the GST app, the company has selected Masters India. Masters India will provide the required software to BSNL’s customers for GST filing.
