Chandigarh 1st City in India to Have 100% Water Connections

You’ll be happy to hear that Chandigarh has become India’s No.1 city to have 100% water connection. In a bid to become one of the top smart cities in India, Chandigarh Administration is leaving no stone unturned to make the city all the more beautiful. It is doing every bit to provide the residents of Chandigarh with all modern civic amenities. To top all the endevors made, the city has bagged the first position in India to have 100 % water connections to every household in Chandigarh. Yes, you heard it right!

Chandigarh first Indian city with 100 % water supply

Carrying forward with the dream of Jawahar Lal Nehru to make Chandigarh a well-planned city, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has outreached every nook and corner of the city with water supply. UT Administration along with Chandigarh MC is now trying to take Le Corbusier’s project up to the next level with equal distribution and supply of drinking water across the city including all the villages that fall under the topography of the city beautiful. Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has managed to reach over 2.10 lakh households with 100 percent potable water which is commendable.

Miscellaneous projects under smart city plan in Chandigarh

Talking about the progress on the miscellaneous projects under the Smart City plan, Chandigarh is making a fast move. Making the utmost of the highest amount of Rs 6,272 crore amongst the 90 smart cities sanctioned by the Urban Development Ministry-

  • By far Chandigarh UT has started constructing smart parking for over 50,000 vehicles across 25 locations within the city.
  • The UT Administration has built a cycling track of 50 kms while another cycling track of 40 kms is under construction, which is pegged to cost of Rs 18 crore.
  • Also, the Chandigarh Administration shall begin working on the enhancement of sector 43, which is estimated to cost Rs 4,500 crore.
  • Installing of LED street lights all across the inner and the outer roads of the city.

Off lately, the Union Minister of Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, M Venkaiah Naidu held a review meeting to get an update on the progress of urban development of 29 States and Union Territories including Chandigarh falling under the Smart City plan.
