Chandigarh airport (IXC) is getting ready to start international flights for the citizens of this city beautiful. If all goes well, you’ll be able to fly Dubai directly from Chandigarh starting March 2015. All thanks to SpiceJet which has become the fist airline to introduce an international flight from Chandigarh airport. Other airlines might soon follow and soon we’ll be having direct flights to Singapore, New York, Toronto, Sydney and whatever city in the world you have in mind.
Chandigarh airport is managed by the Indian Air Force and it directly comes under the ministry of Defence. The authorities at the airport had meetings with top Air Force personal and it was revealed that the Defence Ministry as well as the Indian Air Force is ready to go ahead with making Chandigarh Airport International.
Air Force and the Airport authority of Chandigarh have already started recruiting professionals and the ground staff for this purpose. Air traffic controllers, radars, weather station and other equipment is also needed. The finance wing of Ministry of Defence would soon release the amount to upgrade Chandigarh into an international airport.
Flights from Chandigarh Airport
Currently, there are 7 airlines who are operating domestic flights from Chandigarh airport. These 7 are – Spicejet, Indigo, JetKonnect, Jet Airways, Go Air and Air Asia and Air India. Apart from the Chandigarh Dubai flight by Spicejet no other international flight has been confirmed yet. And even the timings of this particular flight have not yet been decided. But we might have some more airlines landing at Chandigarh from various parts of the world pretty soon.
And we guess that Chandigarh Airport should now be called as Chandiagrh International Airport. After all, it is something to be proud of as a Chandigarhian. Starting of international flights from Chandigarh will boost the tourism, bring in more revenue and more investments. Chandigarh truly has a bright future and this is just a small step towards that.
