Chandigarh the capital city of Punjab and Haryana is witnessing biting cold during the winters as the year 2014 is about to come to an end. The residents of Chandigarh braved the freezing cold to celebrate Christmas. The chill in the weather at Chandigarh could be easily felt with hands and feet getting colder.
The minimum temperature in Chandigarh has already touched the 3 degree mark and may fall down further during this winter season. If we compare the minimum temperature of major cities in Punjab and Haryana then Chandigarh is the coldest among them. Amritsar which is always the coldest city in Punjab remained at a minimum temperature of 4 degree Celsius. Not just this, The maximum temperature in Chandigarh is less as compared to Shimla and Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh).

Fog hits road, rail and air traffic
Due to extreme cold, fog has engulfed Chandigarh which has affected the road, rail and air traffic. All flights from Chandigarh Airport were cancelled and trains like Shatabdi were reported running late by up to 5 hours. According to the MET department, the condition will remain same till 1st Jan, 2015. People have been advised to drive safe and switch on the headlights at low beam during fog.
