Chandigarh-Delhi Shatabdi to Now Have an Additional Coach to Tackle The Rush

Additional Coach in Shatabdi to Accommodate Delhi-Chandigarh Passengers

As per the report, there will soon be an additional coach in the Chandigarh Shatabdi. This new coach is aimed at accommodating the passengers travelling between Delhi and Chandigarh. The additional coach will ply between Delhi and Chandigarh from May 12 to May 31.

Why the additional coach in the afternoon Shatabdi?

It has been reported that the additional coach in the afternoon Chandigarh-Delhi Shatabdi will accommodate more passengers. This new AC coach will be added to the afternoon train from May 12, 2018. The decision has been taken by the Ambala division of the Indian Railways.  The move to add additional AC coach to the afternoon Shatabdi is aimed to facilitate passengers during the period when Chandigarh airport will remain closed for repair work.

The Shatabdi bearing train number no. 12046 departs from the railway station, Chandigarh at 12 noon and arrives at the New Delhi railway station at 3.25 pm.

Ambala division’s orders to add the additional AC chair coach! 

It has been decided by the Ambala division of the Indian Railways that to accommodate passengers who may suffer due to the ongoing runway upgrade work at the Chandigarh airport, an additional AC chair car coach will be added to the afternoon Shatabdi.

The AC chair car coach will be added in the afternoon Chandigarh-New Delhi Shatabdi train no 12046 from May 12 to May 31. It is worth mentioning here that only the afternoon Shatabdi is owned by the Ambala division of the Indian Railways while rest of the Shatabdis are owned by the New Delhi division.

The afternoon Shatabdi has 10 rakes. Out of these 10 rakes while one is executive the remaining nine are air condition (AC) chair car coaches.

Here’s why the Airport will remain closed?

According to the report, an official has stated that the Chandigarh International Airport will remain closed for both civil and military purposes during this period. Technically advance treatment will be carried out at the Chandigarh Airport on the runway surface for which it is mandatory to close the runway. It is essential for the successful execution of treatments at the runway.

The report also mentions that there is a chance that after the treatment long destination flights to Europe, USA, Canada and other destinations may initiate operations from the Chandigarh Airport.
