Chandigarh gets its new Mayor named as Rajesh Kalia for the year 2019. BJP won the election held for the Chandigarh Mayor and announced Rajesh Kalia as the first person of the city. Recently, Rajesh Kalia who belong to Valmiki Community grabbed the position as Chandigarh’s Mayor after winning the elections. Out of 27 total votes, he bagged 16 total votes in his favour and become the new Mayor of the city beautiful.

Chandigarh Gets A New Mayor 2019: The Journey From Ragpicker to First Person
The city beautiful Chandigarh has got its new Mayor and we can say his story is relatable to PM Modi. Likewise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was once a tea seller, Rajesh Kalia was once a ragpicker. Yes, BJP’s new Mayor of Chandigarh, Rajesh Kalia once use to pick rags in the city to meet up his financial expenses. Now the table has turned and 46 years old Rajesh Kalia has become the first person of Chandigarh.
Not only a ragpicker but Rajesh Kalia has also worked as an auto driver to look after the family. He entered the politics in 1984, then in 2011 he contested for MC polls but failed and afterwards in 2016, Rajesh won his second election from ward number 7 of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Now the biggest challenge for the new Mayor is to make Chandigarh as the cleanest city to reach the top position in Swacch Survekhchan ranking.

The new Mayor of Chandigarh for the year 2019, Rajesh Kalia belong to Ahulana village located in Sonipat district of Haryana. He shifted to Chandigarh in the year 1977 and joined politics in the year 1984. The newly elected Mayor of Chandigarh has completed his Class 12 and started to pick rags from Dadu Majra dumping ground. Rajesh Kalia’s father Kundan Lal retired as a sweeper and he has grown up with 6 siblings (2 brother and 4 sisters). One of the new Mayor’s brothers is still a sweeper.
Apart from siblings, Rajesh Kalia has 3 daughters and want them all to pursue higher studies. According to the new Mayor of Chandigarh, his first priority is to make city free from dumping ground. Last but not least, we wish him all the best and hope to see great work for Chandigarh.
