And Now, All Chandigarh Housing Board Societies to Have Gyms

Pertaining to its aim of making Chandigarh a futuristic city, gyms are going to be installed in new as well as old housing societies of Chandigarh Housing Board. These gyms will be free of cost for residents. Fitness is something that people in Chandigarh can die for and this step of free gyms in housing societies will serve as a great step.

The step is admired as residents of societies can look forward to enhancing their fitness with the help of newly opened gyms. The dwellings to witness such state-of-the-art Gymnasiums first is in sectors 29, 42, 40, 44, 38(west), 43, 47 an 45 along with Modern Housing Complex in Manimajra.

Starting from its first phase of the project, a total sum of 66.74 Lakh will be invested in gyms at 38(west), sector 45 and Manimajra. Out of this sum, around 32.14 Lakh will be invested in gymming equipment while the rest will be spent on covered equipment platform.

Though it might seem to be a luxury like thing, societies will still have to go through an official process to make the equipment available for residents. The Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) will have to submit a written consent to take over the equipment. Therefore, the responsibility of the equipment will be solely of RWAs. In case the RWAs fails to provide written consent, then the authority of taking over the equipment will be forwarded to any other society.

The Chairman of CHB Maninder Singh Said that “We have taken the decision for the welfare of our allottees”. He also indicated that the matter is still to be finalised as it is yet to be placed before board meeting for ultimate approval.

The news is is not shocking as there are already such initiatives being taken by Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. The MC recently installed open air gym in Shanti Kunj, Sector 23 which is free for all. It saw installation of 10-non electrical fitness machines costing as much as 10 lakh.

We expect and hope that opening of such gyms will help inject a fitness schedule in the daily lives of people and further enhance their health status.

Free Wi-Fi & Reading Rooms Too

In addition to gyms, Wi-Fi enabled reading rooms will also be installed in several societies. The reading rooms will have magazines, books and newspapers along with free Wi-Fi facility. These rooms can be a choice for youngsters as well as older people. Let’s see when these superb ideas actually come into reality.
