Chandigarh will be getting its first woman SSP (Senior Superintendent Of Police). It’s big thing and also a moment of proud as the administration is giving opportunities to the woman to make an impact on the society.

VP Badnore, The UT Administrator recommended the name of Punjab-Cadre IPS officer Jagdale Nilambari Vijay to the Union home ministry for the post of SSP in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh Likely To Have First Woman SSP

Inderbir Singh was the former SSP in Sangrur and he was dropped from the panel. Punjab sent a fresh list of officers after he was dropped from the panel when he was found guilty of extorting money from two farmers. Apart from extorting money, he also threatened them to implicate them in a murder case when he posted in Sangrur as an SSP.

The UT Administration recommends one name from the panel of officers for the post. The final decision is made after the Cabinet Committee of Appointment approves it. However, as per a senior official of the Administration, the recommendation sent by the Administration gets accepted in a majority of cases.

During the SAD-BJP ( Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party) regime, the UT Administration rejected two panels. They then requested the state government to send them a fresh list of the officers.

Sukhchain Singh Gill, an IPS officer of 2003 batch was the SSP in Chandigarh. Sukhchain Singh Gill was sent back to Punjab last year in December and since then the city’s SSP post has been lying vacant. At present, Eish Singhal has been officiating at the SSP of Chandigarh.
