Chandigarh Likely To Have First Woman SSP
Inderbir Singh was the former SSP in Sangrur and he was dropped from the panel. Punjab sent a fresh list of officers after he was dropped from the panel when he was found guilty of extorting money from two farmers. Apart from extorting money, he also threatened them to implicate them in a murder case when he posted in Sangrur as an SSP.
The UT Administration recommends one name from the panel of officers for the post. The final decision is made after the Cabinet Committee of Appointment approves it. However, as per a senior official of the Administration, the recommendation sent by the Administration gets accepted in a majority of cases.
During the SAD-BJP ( Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party) regime, the UT Administration rejected two panels. They then requested the state government to send them a fresh list of the officers.
