Chandigarh May Soon Have An IIT & Here Are The Details

IIT in Chandigarh! Every science student dreams of studying at the Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT). There are 23 IIT’s in India.

UT’s Administrator has shown an interest to upgrade Punjab Engineering College as an IIT. Dr Manoj Arora had a discussion regarding the IIT Status for PEC with the UT Administrator. Presently, the IIT status for Punjab Engineering College is still pending to be approved by the Centre.

Punjab Engineering College, Sector 12 Chandigarh also known as PEC, Chandigarh is one the best engineering colleges in India. PEC Chandigarh is well reputed in North India, India and also Internationally.

IIT Status For PEC Chandigarh

UT administrator was impressed after a discussion with Dr Arora to upgrade Punjab Engineering College (PEC) as an Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT). UT Administrator feels that PEC has been fulfilling all the criteria required for an IIT. He said that the UT Administration will definitely be supporting the authorities of Punjab Engineering College(PEC) to get an IIT status! (BIG BLOW!)

Five Year Plan

There is a mention in the 12th Five Year Plan that several institutes in Chandigarh will be upgraded to Central Institutions. Punjab Engineering College and Chandigarh College Of Architecture of Chandigarh have the potential of upgrading to Central Institutions.

Modern PEC Campus

The PEC officials said that the infrastructure will be improved once PEC receives an IIT status. The UT Administration will be providing funds to PEC to improve the outlook of the campus in the coming five years.

As per the proposal:

  • Rs. 16 crore to set up 118 apartments of 8,829 sq. metre area.
  • Rs. 24 crore for constructing 368 rooms of 13,011 sq ft area at the girls’ hostel
  • Rs. 38 crore for constructing 648 rooms of 20,910 sq ft area at the boy’s hostel
  • Rs. 14 crore for constructing 184 rooms of 7,434 sq ft area at the international hostel
  • Rs. 2.5 crore for developing dining area of 1,301 sq ft area.
  • Rs. 5 crore for six dormitories which will have 18 rooms with 18 double beds.
