Chandigarh Police to go Hi-Tech with Automated Fingerprint Scanners

In a step to reduce crime rate in Chandigarh, the police has decided to go high on technology. Chandigarh Police will be importing automated fingerprint scanners as used in European countries. These scanners will help identify criminals within few minutes of the time of arrest. Chandigarh police and the UT Administration are doing their level best efforts to reduce the crime rate in the city and provide justice to the victims by introducing such technology based systems.

There were times when the cops had to use the ink solution to take the fingerprints of the criminals. If the suspected person was not of same place then the enquiry letters were posted to their counterparts in other states due to which there was delay in the process of investigation.

As of now, the samples of fingerprints are collected and are sent to a laboratory in Phillaur, Punjab. The automated fingerprint scanners at Chandigarh Police Stations will not just be able to catch the criminal from within city but will be able to search all fingerprints.

All major police stations in Chandigarh will have a fingerprint identification system.

How Automated Fingerprint Scanner Works

Automated fingerprint identification system, also called as AFIS uses digital imaging technology to obtain, store and analyze fingerprint data. This system will be connected to the crime and criminal tracking network of India (CCTN).

Maybe, the fingerprints database of Aadhar cards is also utilized in the future.

How it will benefit Chandigarh

-Cases of theft and other crimes in the city will be cracked in few minutes.

-It will add to the criminal data of the country and every fingerprint will be stored digitally.

-There will be no more delay in the process of investigation as the criminal from any part of the country can be detected.

-It will help narrowing search parameters for the investigators.

-Fingerprints of the arrested person recorded in the machine will be matched with the fingerprints taken from the scene of crime and the criminal will be identified within seconds.

-It will help connecting various police stations and investigation teams all across the country.

-The finger prints of the criminals will be saved and stored and can be used for future investigations also.

Chandigarh Police is becoming smart and is always on the lookout for new technology that can help the residents of this beautiful city. The procurement of automated fingerprint scanner will surely help reduce the crime rate in Chandigarh.
