Chandigarh Metro Launches ‘Chandigarh Supports Nepal’ Earthquake Relief Campaign

In an initiative to help those affected by earthquake in Nepal, we at Chandigarh Metro, (a news website of the region) have launched “Chandigarh Supports Nepal” Earthquake Relief Campaign. The relief campaign has been planned in association with a Non-Profit organization “Can & Will” and a leading IT company “ZapBuild Technologies Pvt. Ltd” based in Mohali.

Why we started this campaign?

We all have heard the BIG news about Nepal and we all know how much devastation has been caused due to the massive earthquake that rocked this small Himalayan country on 25th April, 2015. As per a latest report from The Guardian, Govt. has confirmed the death of 6000 people in the Nepal earthquake and as per reports, the toll is expected to cross 10,000.

Just a thought about how few seconds can destroy everything around you is terrible. I’ll share the exact situation that made me start this campaign.

I (Ajay Deep, founder of ChandigarhMetro.com) reside in the city of Chandigarh. We have a car washing guy who hails from Nepal. He earns a living by washing cars and doing another small part time job here in Chandigarh while his family is back in Nepal. Although, he has a mobile phone, but he came to know about the earthquake in Nepal exactly after 1 day. Without  even asking for his salary, he rushed to Nepal to see his family and his house. I don’t know where he is, how he is and what affect did the earthquake had on his house. Just like him, there are thousands of people from Nepal who make a living in Chandigarh and then there are Nepali students who come here for their studies.

Think about a good restaurant which has a Nepali cook, think about your area that has a Nepali Chownkidar, A lot of Nepali men work as labourers in Sec 26 mandi and other places. Think of a Nepali security guard. Chandigarh being a prominent city of North India attracts a lot of people from Nepal who have served us in many ways. It is our time to help and tell them that “Chandigarh Supports Nepal”.

“Chandigarh Supports Nepal” Campaign Details:

Chandigarh Metro is just playing a small role in the campaign by spreading the word as an online media source. The concept of “Chandigarh Supports Nepal” has been initiated by Chandigarh Metro but the real work is being done by ‘Zapbuild’ and ‘Can & Will’ which have set up collection points across the city.
