Francois Holande, the President of France was all praises for Chandigarh as he visited the beautiful city on a casual tour with PM Narendra Modi. In a brief interview with Hindustan Times media team at Hotel Taj, Hollande was quoted saying “Chandigarh is a very beautiful city. I welcome the idea of being called here“.
Francois Hollande is the international guest of honour for Republic Day Parade which will be held on 26th January 2016 in New Delhi. But before going to New Delhi, French President had expressed his desire to see Chandigarh. Security in the city was beefed up to the highest extent as Hollande and Modi went around Chandigarh on a tour.
The tourist spots in Chandigarh where both leaders paid a visit included Rock Garden, Capitol Complex and Government Arts Museum.
Although Chandigarh had recently won the title of being the cleanest city of India, still the Chandigarh Administration had worked hard to clean up the city before the VVIP visit. The route taken by Modi and Hollande was decorated and all arrangements were made so that it becomes a memorable visit for the French President. Among other arrangements, Bhnagra was also performed at all tourist places to woo the International Guest at Chandigarh.
During the city tour, Hollande said “I wish that the work of Le Corbusier, that can be admired in Chandigarh, be recognised by UNESCO”.
