Blast at a Cold Store in Dist. Sangrur, Punjab – 4 Dead, 36 Injured

In the Dhuri city of Sangrurdistrict of Punjab, 4 people died in a tragic blast while 36 reportedly got injured. The tragic incident took place at a potato cold store in the broad day light of Friday afternoon. The blast was so massive and impactful that the store got damaged while the roof of the store had come down completely.

Immediately after the tragedy, the team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Bathinda reached the spot for the recovery operation. The team of NDRF dug out the injured people from the debris and rushed them to the nearby government and private hospitals.

Why blast took place

The blast in Sangrur took place at the Guru Nanak Cold store situated near the Dhuri flyover. Though the investigation, in this case, has been initiated on the orders of Deputy Commissioner of Sangrur, APS Virk but as per the workers at the cold store blast occurred in the air condition’s pipeline that instigated the tragedy. those who have lost their life in this blast at the cold store in Dhuri were daily wage workers from Hoshiarpur along with a farmer from Ludhiana.

What happened to the injured

The 17 out of 36 injured were effected by the blast that took place inside the cold store while 19 others got effected by smelling the fumes of ammonia gas that leaked after the blast. The recovery operation is still going on so that none are left beneath the debris.

The compensation of Rs 1 lakh has been announced by the Punjab Government to the families of the deceased while Rs 50,000 each will be given to the families of the injured. The injured are given free treatments at the Government hospitals. The SDM of Dhuri has commenced the inquiry of the case and assured to punish the guilty.
