The city bus service in Chandigarh – Chandigarh Transport Undertaking has bagged the first prize in fleet utilisation category at the Annual productivity awards of Association of State Road Transport Undertaking (ASRTU) held at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi.
About the Award
Association of State Road Transport Undertaking conducts various functional activities for the interest of the members as well as the general public. This involves influencing public policy on passenger transport sector, effective liaising with various Central Ministries, Planning Commission and other related offices like Central Board of Secondary Education, Transport Commissioner’s Offices etc. The Association this year organised annual conference in New Delhi to give away productivity awards to all its deserving members in various categories.
The categories included:
- Effective fleet utilisation
- Improvement in fuel efficiency
- Revenue generation
Bagging first position in the first category of Effective Fleet utilisation, Chandigarh Transport Undertaking has proven the fact that Chandigarh as a city strives real hard to be the best in whatever it has to offer.The journey of the transport facility has been a commendable one. Ranging back to having 30 fleet at its start to now bagging the first position among the 62 member team of ASRTU which includes Delhi Transport Undertaking, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Committee etc, CTU truly deserves a thumbs up for its great achievement by winning against these tough competitors by the residents.

Chandigarh Transport Undertaking came into existence in the year 1966 with a fleet strength of 30 buses only, as a result of trifurcation of Punjab Roadways at the time of re-organisation of Punjab State.Since then there has been no looking back in terms of providing good service to the city residents and daily commuters of people visiting the city for job opportunities.
About ASRTU
Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) came into existence on 13th August, 1965 to bring together all the State Road Transport Undertakings on a common platform with the aim of pooling their resources and know-how for dealing with various problems faced by them and help them to improve their performance. ASRTU has expertise of 50 years for promoting public transport in the country at present 62 SRTUs are the backbone of mobility for the urban and rural population across the country.
