Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Sentenced to Jail for 10 Years

The final verdict in the Dera sect head rape case is out. Today, the convict Godman, Sirsa’s Dera Sacha Sauda head has been sentenced to a non– bailable jail for 10 years by the special CBI court judge within the premises of the Sonaria jail in Rohtak, Haryana. After being convicted of raping his two sadhvis, the Dera Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was finally sent to the Sonaria Jail in Rohtak, last Friday on August 25. 

Though Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s lawyers argued the quantum of his punishment on the grounds of the social work he has done so far but the CBI sought maximum punishment with the judge for the Dera Chief. However, the news is there that Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s lawyers will approach the Punjab & Haryana High Court but until any other court proceedings, he will have to serve imprisonment for 10 years

Extreme security in Panchkula and Rohtak, Haryana

As the precautionary measure, the Haryana and Punjab schools and colleges remained closed today also while the mobile internet services will resume from tomorrow. Taking a lesson from the Friday’s situation, the Haryana government has beefed up the security across Haryana and have guarded the Rohtak’s Sonaria Jail with five-layers of deployment of police, paramilitary and military forces around.

The judge in the Dera Chief rape case, Jagdeep Singh had left from Panchkula at around 12:30 pm by air with z+ security and had reached the Sonaria Jail at 2 pm to pronounce sentence to the rape convict, Gurmeet Ram Rahim. At 2:30 pm, CBI court judge, Jagdeep Singh started his court proceedings by hearing the arguments on the quantum of his punishment to the Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s conviction.

Recap of riot in Panchkula and other parts of Haryana 

Last week, was registered as the black Friday in the history of Panchkula where the situation of volatile law and order ruptured in the city as and when the verdict of Dera Chief’s conviction came in. The witness riots by the Dera followers who had thronged Panchkula three- four days prior to the D-day. Soon after the news of Dera Chief’s conviction came, the Dera followers went mad and spared none who came on their way. They broke and burnt over 100 vehicles on the road, which includes the OB van of the electronic media channels, cars, and bikes of media persons and even the truck of fire tenders. Not only this, the mob of Dera followers has vandalized and burnt the government offices, shops, hotel and petrol pump of Panchkula. A total of 38 people died in the incident while over 270 are reportedly injured seriously. 

Punjab & Haryana HC ordered to attach Dera properties for the recovery of riots in Haryana

To make up for all the personal and the state government’s loss in the riots, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has ordered to attach all the properties of Dera Sacha Sauda and if Gurmeet Ram Rahim owns in personal. The court has also banned the further sale of all the property and lands of Dera Sacha Sauda in order to recover for all the losses Dera followers did to the entire state during the riots.

Other than this, Dera Chief has been accused in more cases including murder case of the journalist who broke the story of Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s sexual assault to sadhvis in his camps, abduction of Haryana’s Kaithal village woman who never returned to her home in 3 years after she went on a Dera Sacha Sauda cleanliness drive in Mumbai, land grabbing, and many others.
