Chandigarh Airport has been in the news lately due to the repair works on the runway that had affected the schedule of most flights taking off from Chandigarh. But it is only the part of expansion to make the facilities at par with most major airports in the country. Also a part of the same plan are a few restaurants and shops being opened up at the Chandigarh airport. Yesterday the news broke that Flamingo which is a global firm has bagged the contract to put up two duty free shops one at arrival and departure each.
Flamingo bags the contract to set up two duty-free shops at Chandigarh Airport
Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CIAL) authorities have managed to find a suitable company to put up two duty free shops in the airport. This was the second attempt by the authorities after getting poor response in the first attempt even after extending the deadline. This time around though, three key players were interested in acquiring the contract but Flamingo Global was awarded by the Chandigarh Airport authorities. Under the contract Flamingo will have to put up two duty free stores one each at the arrival and departure of the Chandigarh Airport. The stores will have to be up and running in the next 120 days. The contract bagged by Flamingo also allows the company to sell beauty and several other products at its stores in the Chandigarh International Airport.
Chandigarh Airport Has Been Expanding Rapidly.
To cater to the increasing air passenger traffic at the Chandigarh Airport the authorities have been looking to expand the airport and make international level facilities available for the travellers. As a part of this major expansion the Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CIAL) authorities have added many facilities to the airport in a short span of time. Just a month ago it was announced that a contract was drawn by the Chandigarh airport authorities to set up 14 snack bars at the airport and 3 of them have been up and running before Diwali. A new restaurant was also part of the deal which was to be operational at the Chandigarh International Airport.
