In a shameful eve teasing incident in Punjab, a girl died as she was forced to jump off a moving AC bus while trying to save herself from molesters. The incident took place in District Moga, 10 kilometres from the city on the Moga – Bathinda Highway.
Girl boarded the bus from Moga along with her mother and younger brother. Just as the bus crossed the city and drove on the highway, some youths in the bus started to pass vague comments on the girl. As her mother was accompanying the girl, she called upon the bus conductor. But to her astonishment, the conductor also joined the boys and started to laugh. Upon this, the girl’s mother complained about the incident to the bus driver, who, instead of helping the family reportedly increased the speed of the bus. There were few other passengers in the bus but no one came to rescue.
In order to save themselves, the young girl and her mother stood up from their seat and stood near the bus door. But as the youth did not stop, they were forced to jump from the moving bus. The girl named ‘Arshdeep Kaur’ who was just 15 years old died on the spot while her mother named ‘Shinder Kaur’ sustained serious injuries and was admitted in a hospital.
The Bus Details:
The bus in which the family was travelling and this shameful incident happened belongs to Orbit. Orbit company owns a lot of AC buses on various routes in Punjab and is said to be owned by the Badal family (Prime Minister of Punjab).
A case was registered by local Police and the bus has been impounded. Police officials said that a statement of the girl’s mother would be recorded and the miscreants would be dealt with seriously.
Security and safety of Women in Buses:
The incident has raised a question on the security and safety of women who travel frequently in buses in private and state run buses. A similar incident had happened in Haryana few months back but nothing much has been done to safeguard women.
