Chandigarh, what we all know as the city beautiful was formed in 1950’s after the Indian independence.
As India was about to get its independence from the British rule in 1947, no one knew that 2 different countries would be formed. As a new nation came into existence on 14th August 1947, the city of Lahore which was the capital of Punjab now became a part of Pakistan. The most brave state of India ‘Punjab’ was left without a capital and the search for a new capital zeroed in to the formation of a new city named Chandigarh.
The dream of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to create a new modern city after the Indian independence is in front of us all in the form of Chandigarh – The Beautiful City. The first planned city after the Indian independence now is one of the most beautiful, livable and modern city of India.
