Meet Chandigarh: 1st Planned City of India after Independence, That Has a Promising Future

Chandigarh, what we all know as the city beautiful was formed in 1950’s after the Indian independence.

As India was about to get its independence from the British rule in 1947, no one knew that 2 different countries would be formed. As a new nation came into existence on 14th August 1947, the city of Lahore which was the capital of Punjab now became a part of Pakistan. The most brave state of India ‘Punjab’ was left without a capital and the search for a new capital zeroed in to the formation of a new city named Chandigarh.

The dream of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to create a new modern city after the Indian independence is in front of us all in the form of Chandigarh – The Beautiful City. The first planned city after the Indian independence now is one of the most beautiful, livable and modern city of India.

It was in 1950’s that Chandigarh came into existence and since then, the city has made tremendous progress. The pointers below highlight the key achievements of Chandigarh in the recent years.

What Chandigarh as a city has achieved so far:

The Promising Future of Chandigarh

Development around the city = With residential & commercial plots, flats and huge housing societies coming up around Chandigarh, the city will soon become something like New York that would be spread in a huge area. The best part is that even people who live in Mohali, Zirakpur, Kharar, Panchkula and as far as Dera Bassi say that they are from Chandigarh.

Medical facilities = With government hospitals like PGI and some of the best private ones coming to Chandigarh, people here can be rest assured of all sorts of medical help.

Educational Hub = Universities like PEC, PU and colleges like DAV College are here to give Chandigarh students the best of education. People from as far as Rajasthan come here to pursue their studies. The educational sector in Chandigarh is sure to get even more strong.

Employment = There is a reason why people from small cities move to larger cities for employment. But, Chandigarh is growing up at an amazing pace in this sphere. With corporate organizations like Infosys, Tech Mahindra and other top IT companies setting up their offices in Chandigarh has given the city a boost. Even the startup culture in Chandigarh is growing amazingly.

Although, Chandigarh is being considered in Tier 2 cities of India, but the day is not very far when it will be at par with other metro cities of India. The credit for such remarkable progress in Chandigarh goes to its administration and its citizens.

Happy Independence Day, India.

From Your Model City, Chandigarh.
