SUV War – 2017 Ford Ecosport Facelift V/s Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza | Price, Engine, Features & More

With the launch of new Ford Ecosport facelift, competition for the segment leader Maruti Vitara Breeza has become a little tough. The recently launched Tata Nexon has made the competition tougher. With numerous options in the segment, choosing the right subcompact that meets your requirements as well as fits your budget. Here’s a quick specification comparison face-off of both the 2017 Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza to see which of the subcompact SUV has a better presentation.

With a straightforward design, segment leader Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, looks like a toned-down version of a SUV. The Launched at an attractive price with striking features, the Maruti Vitara Brezza is quite popular in the Indian market. The Vitara Breeza get a square design merged with slightly rectangular wheel arches. The sub-compact SUV gets 16-inch wheels that look a little small on the overall design of the four-wheeler. Slightly beefed-up rear gives it a hatchback appearance but the lower cladding offers the apt compact SUV look to the Maruti Breeza.

Though the new Ford EcoSport facelift gets several noticeable changes yet it appears much similar to its predecessor. The Ford EcoSport facelift gets cosmetic changes on the front which includes bolder grille, projector headlamps with LED DRLs. While the bumper of the new Ford EcoSport facelift has been redesigned, the bonnet also gets some new creases. The bumper also gets attractive edgy fog lamps. The side profile of the new Ecosport is quite similar but the 17-inch alloy wheels with a new design adds more appeal to the sub compact SUV. The rear of the four-wheeler remains almost the same.

The new Ford EcoSport facelift gets new black leather upholstery that offers premium feel to the car. The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is one of the top highlights of the subcompact SUV in the segment. The floating screen comes loaded with features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Ford’s integrated SYNC 3. The system gives a nice premium look to the new centre console of the Ford Ecosport. Though the interior space remains almost same to the previous model yet the steering, as well as the instrument cluster, add newness to the cabin.

Cabin of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, on the other hand, doesn’t appear premium but it does offer comfortable space for the travelers. The Maruti Breeza also gets a touchscreen infotainment system though with a smaller screen but it gets most of the other features that are offered in EcoSport.

Engines and transmission specifications of the two subcompact SUV

The new Ford EcoSport gets a new, more efficient 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. The old four-cylinder engine has been discontinued. The new petrol engine produces 123PS and 150Nm of torque. The new Ecosport comes with two transmission options – A five-speed manual and a new six-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5-diesel variant of the Ford Ecosport comes with only manual transmission option. The engine churns out 100PS of power and 205Nm of peak torque.

The Maruti Brezza comes with the successful, tried and tested 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine. The diesel unit also propels other Maruti siblings as well. The 1.3litre motor produces 90PS of power and 200Nm of peak torque. The Breeza comes with only manual transmission option and has been mated to five-speed manual transmission unit.

Safety on the road features

With six airbags in the top-of-the-line variant and dual airbags in all the models of the line-up, the new Ford EcoSport facelift claims best-in-class safety features. ABS with EBD is being offered as a standard fitment across all the Ford Ecosport trim line.  The automatic variant of the SUV, gets electronic stability control, hill-launch assist, traction control and emergency brake assist as well.

On the other hand, the Maruti Vitara Brezza gets ABS with EBD, and two front airbags. These safety features are standard through the Maturi Breeza trim range.

And here is the winner

While the Ford EcoSport offers great performance, attractive looks and ample safety features the lower cabin space is a major drawback in the subcompact SUV.

On the other hand the Maruti Brezza offers more space and also gets good number of features. On safety front, it lags behind the EcoSport. The only advantage that the Maruti Brezza gets is, great brand value and the largest aftersales network in the country.
