Ford Ecosport has been driving crazy sales numbers for the American carmaker and recently even managed to outsell the Tata Nexon and the Honda WR-V. High on the success of its compact SUV, the company also unveiled a new car – the Ford Freestyle which is the company’s first CUV (Compact Utility Vehicle) in India. However, these are expensive cars and do not drive huge numbers like cars from a segment below.
To counter this, Ford has unveiled the Figo facelift which will be the most affordable car in the Ford Ecosport makers India lineup. The new Figo looks similar to the recently unveiled Ford Freestyle and will launch in India this year.
Ford Freestyle Looks A Beefed Up Figo
Ford Ecosport and Endeavour are doing pretty well in their respective segments and now the company wants to make a strong comeback in the hatchback segment with the Ford Figo. The official images of the new facelift (sold as Ka+ in Europe) were released online and give us quite an idea of the new design ideology that the Ford Freestyle was based upon.
The new Ford Figo seems to retain the dimensions of the previous generation car but now comes with larger headlamps and a new front grille with chrome surrounds. The Ford Ecosport younger sibling also gets new alloy wheels and a similar fog lamp housing that we saw on the Ford Freestyle a week ago. Coming to the interiors, there is now a touchscreen infotainment system hopefully with Apple Carplay and Android Auto support along with Ford Sync3 technology like the Ecosport.
Mechanically, the new Ford Figo gets a new petrol engine which is rumoured to make 95 Bhp and 120 Nm of torque. A 1.5-litre diesel will also be on offer but we aren’t sure if it is the same one found on the Ford Ecosport. With an automatic gerbo, the Ford Figo will manage to appeal to a lot of urban customers who drive in bumper to bumper traffic.
Like the Ford Ecosport, the Ford Figo too will be priced competitively
Ford Ecosport was launched in November last year at a price of 7.31 Lakh Rupees. Ford Figo price in India will also be very competitive when compared to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 which are its main rivals. The Figo is expected to launch alongside Ford Freestyle later this year with a price in the neighbourhood of 4.99 Lakhs. In our opinion, the Figo does sound like a better car than the Swift at least on paper.
