Ford Might Use Mahindra XUV 500 Platform To Develop A Jeep Compass Rival

Ford's SUV might be priced lower than the Jeep Compass due to heavy localization

Jeep Compass has taken the market by storm and there is no denying that. The car has changed the perceptions of the Indian customer so much so that a very capable Hyundai Tucson that seemed like a great car feels overpriced now. With the Compass, Jeep has changed the ideology that international brands cannot get higher levels of localization to get the pricing right.

Well now the American carmaker Ford too wants a piece of the cake and will enter the segment with a brand new 5-seater SUV. It is all but speculations right now for the Jeep Compass rival but there have been rumors of Ford using the Mahindra XUV 500 underpinnings to put together a modest SUV that will also take on the Hyundai Creta.

Ford-Mahindra Partnership Might Not Be Good News For Jeep Compass

Jeep Compass has been enjoying the attention of the Indian car buyer for a long time now but the Ford rival may change things for the former. If we look at the segment Compass is present in than there is no worthy competitor other than the Hyundai Creta. Jeep Compass might be eating into the sales of Mahindra XUV 500 or the Tata Hexa but in a segment like this the customer that wants a 7-seater won’t negotiate on that.

Ford is famous for its SUV’s and coincidently the only cars in its portfolio that seem to be doing well belong to the SUV family. Jeep Compass might land into trouble if a car with Ford’s build quality and reliability enters the segment. Making things worse is the Ford-Mahindra partnership that lets Mahindra use the Figo platform for its electric cars and Ford will use the XUV underpinnings.

Pricing of the Ford’s Jeep Compass Rival

With a huge level of localization, the Ford SUV might be priced lower than the Jeep Compass thus ending its reign in the segment. However, the Jeep brand is famous for its off driving capabilities and the Compass is no exception. Unless Ford looks to launch an all-wheel drive variant the SUV won’t be able to make a real dent there. Remember all this is just a rumor as of now and Ford may actually end up making a seven-seat SUV off the XUV platform which means no trouble for the Jeep Compass.
