In an order to make French people aware about the city of Chandigarh and the awesome designs of Le Corbusier (Architect who designed Chandigarh), France organized an exhibition in Paris showcasing the heritage furniture along with famous Chandigarh monuments.
The architectural exhibition titled “Chandigarh – 50 years after Le Corbusier” was held in Paris from 10th November 2015 till 29th February, 2016.
Chandigarh was built as a city after Indian independence. Jawahar Lal Nehru wanted a city in North India which could fit in the future mission of India and be a well planned modern city. Ultimately, it was this Swiss-French architect “Le Corbusier” who along with his associates Pierre Jeanneret, Jane Drew and Maxwell Fry designed Chandigarh.
The architectural exhibition in France showcases how the city of Chandigarh came into being. This exhibition is being organized after 50 years of the death of Le Corbusier and showcases how Chandigarh looks. It also showcases the heritage furniture which was being used by Corbusier in Chandigarh during 1950’s.
Among the things which were showcased in the exhibition were:
- Documentary Films
- Original Documents
- Models
- Furniture
- Everyday objects
- Pictures
- And More…
The exhibition “Chandigarh – 50 years after Le Corbusier” was held at 1 place du Trocadéro, 75016, Paris, France.
Chandigarh was initially developed for just 1,50,000 residents and today the city has a population of 1.2 Million. The best part is that even today, Chandigarh is considered as the second most well planned city of the world. The architectural designs of government buildings in Chandigarh could soon get world heritage status.
It is great that foreign countries like France organize official exhibitions to showcase the architecture and beauty of our city to their citizens. This will surely help Chandigarh Tourism as more people would want to see the city while on their India trip.
