Institutes directly under Central Government or MHRD provide scholarships to candidates via GATE exam. GATE 2019 would be the minimum criteria for them to obtain such a financial assistance for their higher education. Candidate must also first secure admission into a given technical institute to apply for the scholarship via GATE 2019. The criteria for offering scholarship differs from institute to institute.

Some institutes select candidates purely on the basis of the score obtained in GATE Exam 2019. Others may also use GATE score as a qualifying criteria supplemented by an interview or test. Although, the reservation of seats for various categories remains the same. Institutes have the discretion to decide a fixed number of GATE qualified candidates who would get the grant.
