Giani da Dhaba – Chandigarh Shimla Highway is Now No More

The famous Giani Da Dhaba at Dharampur, Kalka- Shimla Highway, Himachal Pradesh was demolished yesterday. Located on NH 22, Kalka-Shimla Highway was an iconic Giani Da Dhaba where locals, as well as tourists, pull over to relish their sumptuous non- veg cuisines.

Giani da Dhaba was one of the famous eating joints where tourists travelling to Solan or Shimla took halts to savour their mouth watering butter chicken and parathas. Even its was a favourite hangout joint for the students of Sanawar School that is nearby and visited it often whenever they bunked classes.

Why is Giani Da Dhaba demolished

The reason for Giani Da Dhaba to get demolished after 43 years of its inception is due to the ongoing work of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) of making the Kalka- Shimla Highway into a four-lane.  The NHAI started bringing down the dhaba at around 9 am on Wednesday in Dharampur, Himachal Pradesh. Giani Da Dhaba was a family business started in 1974 by the parents of Kuldeep Singh Bhatia who owned it and resided with his family in the same building just above the Giani Da Dhaba. Bhatia who was nostalgic with the dismantling of his business source boasts of owning the property spread across the area of 12 Biswa land and he is yet to recover the complete compensation from the authorities.

Bhatia who was nostalgic with the dismantling of his business source boasts of owning the property spread across the area of 12 Biswa land and he is yet to recover the complete compensation from the authorities. According to Bhatia, the authorities have given him Rs 2. crore for demolishing the dhaba for the work of four laning but he claims to own more land other than the eating joint but the authorities are in disparity with Bhatia’s claim as rest of the land belongs to Muslim Waqf Board.

Where will the customers of Giani Da Dhaba go now

Well, all the tourists travelling to Himachal Pradesh via Kalka Shimla Highway should not bother about the Giani Da Dhaba and its food anymore. Kuldeep Singh Bhatia has promised to make a come back soon. In a statement, Bhatia has mentioned that they will start their legendary dhaba just a few meters away from its existing location and that will take them the time of two weeks only.

We wish that Giani Da Dhaba soon comes into existence on NH 22 Kalka- Shimla Highway that the regular visitors will not have to look out for another option to eat at Dharampur, Himachal Pradesh.
