High Court Judges Want Chandigarh Administration To Clean Sukhna Lake

Sukhna Lake is one of the most popular tourist spot of Chandigarh attracting thousands of people everyday. A team of High Court judges found that Sukhna Lake not to be clean enough. The problem of weed at Sukhna Lake has been growing and it is the first time that a team of judges from high Court actually went to the lake on a survey. After inspecting Sukhna lake, HC judges ordered the administration to clean up the weed from the lake water and enhance the beauty so that Chandigarh’s tourist place can re-gain its charm.

High Court is really serious about the slow casual death of the Sukhna lake, due to the decreasing water level and increasing weed in the lake. Sukhna is the place which is called as the soul of the city and every required action should be taken to save it.

Currently, about 60 labourers and 10 boats are working in the process of cleaning weed from Sukhna lake. The court has also given Chandigarh administration the option to outsource the task of taking out weed from the water.

Some Problems Faced by Sukhna Lake

Every year, UT administration spends lakhs of rupees on Sukhna Lake. But still, the lake is facing some serious issues like:-

  • Weed Growth
  • Low water level
  • Silting
  • Shrinking Size

All these issues are significantly shrinking the size and depth of the lake and it can lead to slow death of Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh.

Chandigarh is considered to be the face of modern India and is also known as the best planned city in India. The city is also known as the best example of combination of modernisation with nature. With all this, it is really important that Chandigarh administration works to save Sukhna and to do this the High Court has stepped in.
