Just like J&K, Himachal Pradesh Now Officially Has 2 Capital Cities

We all are aware of Indian states and their capitals since our school days. You might be aware that Jammu & Kashmir is one such state that has 2 capitals – Jammu in winters and Srinagar in summers. To add to your knowledge and update it with the recent news, we’d like to inform you that Himachal Pradesh has become the second such state of India that has 2 capital cities.

Two Capital Cities of Himachal Pradesh

One is, of course, Shimla.

The second city which has got the status to be called as a capital city of Himachal Pradesh is Dharamshala.

Its’s finally official that Dharamshala, an upcoming smart city, the tourist town and also the hometown of Tibetan Spiritual Leader Dalai Lama has been declared the second capital of Himachal Pradesh. This was announced by Virbhadra Singh, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister on 2nd March 2017.

About 250km from Shimla, Dharamshala fully deserved to be the second capital of Himachal Pradesh. Dharamshala is a beautiful tourist destination and also has a history of its own.

The second capital of Himachal will not be following Dardar practice followed in Jammu and Kashmir.

Why Dharamshala?

Dharamshala is a city that comes next to Shimla in culture, traditions and even in political importance. If there was a city that could be of some importance apart from Shimla, then it was Dharamshala.

Also, there was a need to establish a city which is in the Kangra region.

Benefit For Residents

Dharamshala being the second capital of Himachal would benefit the residents of Chamba, Una and Hamirpur districts. All the officials sit in Shimla, residents had to travel all the way to Shimla for all the official matters. Now Dharamshala being the second capital of Himachal Pradesh will also help the state government employees in availing capital allowance for serving in the state capital.

Dharamshala as Tourist Destination

Shimla, The Queen Of Hills is the hot tourist destination of North Indians. Now, Dharamshala has been declared as the second capital of Himachal Pradesh and will definitely be the second hot destination for tourists. Some of the places that deserve a mention in in Dharamshala include:

  • Triund Hill

  • Kangra Fort
  • HPCA (Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association) Cricket Stadium
