Himachal Pradesh Records Maximum Number of Road Accidents On Sundays

Himachal Pradesh, a northern Indian state in the Himalayas and also one of the most beautiful states has been witnessing an endless number of accidents. There are 682 black spots on the Himachal Pradesh roads and it’s becoming a major concern.

As per a report by the NAS (National Ambulance Service), the majority of accidents in Himachal Pradesh happen on Sunday. About 27 accidents happen daily on an average in Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh’s Road Accident Cases

The National Ambulance Service received 8,67,763 emergency cases since 2011. Out of these 8,67,763 emergency cases, 49,430 cases were of road accidents. The NAS conducted a survey and as per the survey report, most of the accidents in Himachal Pradesh happen on Sunday.

25 accidents happen on an average on Saturday and Monday. The NAS feels that excessive partying on weekends is the main reason behind the growing number of road accidents.

Cities in Himachal Pradesh With Most Number Of Road Accidents 

Out of 9,205 road accidents in Himachal Pradesh since 2011 Kangra recorded the most number of accidents due to a lot of traffic and population. Some more cities with the most number of accidents in Himachal Pradesh are:

  • Solan – 6823 accidents
  • Una – 6781 accidents
  • Shimla – 5645 accidents
  • Kinnaur- 281 accidents
  • Lahaul-Spiti – 214 accidents

The main reason of road accidents in the state is the irresponsible driving. The reason Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti recorded the least number of accidents compared to other cities is that the population there is less.

As per reports, 40,091 men have been the victim of road accidents whereas 9,339 women became a victim of road accidents in the state. The number of accidents in Himachal Pradesh has been increasing year by year.

  • 2011 – 5,963 accidents
  • 2012 – 6,715 accidents
  • 2013 – 6650 accidents
  • 2014 – 8858 accidents
  • 2015 – 8875 accidents
  • 2016 – 9542 accidents
  • 2017 – 2811 accidents till April 30
  • The head of GVK Emergency Management And Research Institute said that they have saved 70,862 lives since 2011. The response time is 9 minutes and 40 seconds in urban areas whereas the response time in urban areas is 20 minutes and 35 seconds.

As per the EMRI, there are a lot of black spots on the roads of Himachal Pradesh and the accidents can only be controlled by making them safer. Warning signs and speed breakers should also be set up to control the accidents. Drink and drive are also one of the major reason for road accidents and avoiding drunken driving will certainly avoid accidents.
