Here’s What Hindi Medium (Irrfan Khan & Saba Qamar) is All About | Know Story & Star Cast

Hindi Medium – Bollywood movie featuring Irrfan Khan and Pakistani actress, Saba Qamar Zaman in the leads is a sarcastic taunt in a comedy format to the English-speaking craze amongst Indian population. Slamming the system which sets English proficiency as the benchmark for being as one of the judgement criteria, Hindi Medium depicts the struggled journey of parents to provide education to their child in an “English medium School.”

About Hindi Medium – The Storyline

Revolving around the craze of the Indian population to flaunt “English class” in their ‘Desi Avatars‘, the movie is a remake of ‘Salt Mango Tree‘, which is a Malayalam movie. Directed by the critically acclaimed director of movies like Pyaar Ke Side Effects in the year 2006 and also co-author of the famous ‘Asoka‘ movie starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, Hindi Medium is a whimsical jeer on the present era.

Modern times where “English is a class and not a language”, this film showcases the struggling journey of Hindi medium parents to have their cute little princess to stand amongst the so-called ‘Inglis Class’ by sending her to a fancy 5-star convent school. The thirst to do so goes so intense that in the two and a half minute official trailer they stoop so low to portray themselves belonging to lower strata of society to avail “Gareeb Quota” that would fetch their daughter a smooth admission.

Till then watch the trailer on a repeat mode to get a taste of what the movie is like.

“Hi-Fi School me padhega India, tbhi toh badhega India”

Such amounts of sarcasms oozing out of the dialogues of Hindi Medium, every time when they are denied admissions, is the USP of the movie. Hats off to the scriptwriters who have beautifully commented on the present system without offending anyone. Taking care of the fact that in India, “we may not buy new clothes for festives as rituals, but buy offence very easily.,” this carefully executed movie surely is going to make you fall off your seats in laughter when you watch it.

With such unique concepts coming to the industry, it is not wrong to say that Bollywood as an industry is shining by exploring new forte by leaving the conventional “Masala” movies aside. Mocking the barometer set by the English Class of our population, Irrfan Khan who himself has a personal experience of this pseudo-divide, gets a hats off from the audience when he says, “I am Hindi, but my wife is English.”

Let us wait for ‘Hindi Medium’ to hit the screens on May 12, 2017 to see who wins in this “Hindi vs English” battle.
