2018 is going to be a year of updated hatchbacks in the segment. While Hyundai, the second largest car manufacturer in India, is planning to launch a few new concepts at the 2018 Auto Expo, it appears the automaker is all set to unveil the Elite i20 facelift next year. On the other hand, the car maker is in the final stages of developing an all-new hatchback which is likely to be positioned below one of the most sold Hyundai cars – Hyundai Grand i10.
Hyundai Elite i20 facelift spotted in India
The test mule of the Hyundai Elite i20 has been recently spotted in India. The spied pictures reveal that the hatchback is likely to undergo a major facelift. The recently spotted test mule has been witnessed with less camouflage and the pictures also reveal a peep inside the cabin of the hatchback as well.
The spied pictures reveal that the facelift variant of the Elite i20 gets new facade in addition to a redesigned rear. Though the facelift variant is seen with the current set of headlamps but it is being speculated that the facelift variant of the Hyundai hatch will get new set of headlamps, most likely LED DRLs with projector headlamps.

Features of the Hyundai Elite i20 facelift spotted in India
The test mule that has been spotted wearing a camouflage reveals several characteristic of the hatchback. Though the spotted vehicle gets the current grille and bumpers but it is likely that the Hyundai Elite i20 facelift will get revamped cascading Grille and redesigned bumpers as well.
In addition to lights and bumpers, the hatchback was spotted with diamond-cut alloy wheels that have been newly designed for the hatchback. One of the other visible changes that are likely to come up in the facelift variant of the hatchback is the rear number plate positioning. The number plate is expected to shift on to the boot lid in place of the bumper housing.
Under the hood of the Hyundai Elite i20 facelift and competition
The facelift hatchback will not undergo any mechanical changes though some reports suggest that there is a chance that the automaker may introduce a new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the car that will churn out 120bhp/172Nm. It may come mated to the current 5-speed manual or the 4-speed automatic transmission.
Post its launch in India, the Elite i20 may lock horns with premium hatchbacks in the segment such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo.
