Relocation would provide ease to University students. Presently, IGNOU has 3000 learning centres and 56 regional centres across the country.
IGNOU has thought to move its traditional approach of placing regional centres in each state to the strategical placement of its existing 56 centres across the country. IGNOU has decided not to replace 9 regional centres in the northeast area and replace rest of the centres in the southern and northern parts of the country. IGNOU has also planned to come up with the new regional centre in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. The committee is working on strategic placement of its 56 regional centres across the country and the work is expected to complete in the time frame of one year.
To reduce the connectivity issues faced by students, IGNOU is revamping and relocating its regional centres logistically and logically across the country. The new plan would help students with convincing of its regional centres. IGNOU gets 10 percent of its candidates from entire South India including Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Not only IGNOU also receives candidates applications for various courses for Northeastern states as well. IGNOU receives 10% of total applications from western regions and maximum i.e. up to 40-45% of total enrollments in an academic year from northern India. Thus IGNOU has planned to have strategically located test centres across the country.
The whole process of rationalizing the test centres of IGNOU would take around one year and candidates would get rid of connectivity issues faced in reaching these regional and learning centres. The company has set up the new committee which is headed by Kapil Kumar to overlook the whole process of reallocation of its regional and learning centres.
