The proposed site for upcoming IIM at Punjab has been finalized at village Awan in Ajnala sub-division of District Amritsar. A central government team comprising of SP Goyal, Joint Secretary, Technical Education Department, Kulbhushan Baluni, Director, IIM-Kozhikode, Amritsar DC Ravi Bhagat, Amritsar Development Authority CEO Sandeep Rishi and other officials visited the area to inspect the land and its surroundings. The final nod has already been given and the team was here in Punjab to mainly check the surrounding area of the 60 hectare land where IIM Punjab would be constructed.
IIM Punjab to start session from 15 July, 2015 at Amritsar
It was stated that the building of new IIM at Amritsar in Punjab will take time to be completed but the academic session for IIM Punjab will start from as soon as 15 July 2015. The classes would be held at Punjab Institute of Technology campus which is near to Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. As soon as the new building will come up at Awan village in Ajnala, this temporary campus will be shifted to the official building of IIM Punjab.
The new IIM in the state of Punjab will help students not just from Punjab but also from Chandigarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other neighbouring states. However the admission procedure in IIm Punjab will be strictly as per CAT exam rankings.
