IIT Students Pursuing PhD Will Be Entitled To a Monthly Stipend of Rs 70,000

Students of IIT and IISc Bengaluru to get Rs 70,000 for fellowship programme. Center has decided to provide 2000 such monthly fellowships across the Indian Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.

Presently, the research students are getting only Rs 25,000 monthly for their research at IIT’s. Big news for PHD researchers in IIT and IISc. Now, the students will get Rs 70,000 per month fellowship as part of research fellowship scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The basic objective of this hike is to retain the meritorious students in our country, who are recently being forced to leave the country for financial reasons.

IIT PHD Fellowship Stipend

The IIT Kharagpur celebrated its  67th Foundation Day  at IIT Kharagpur campus in West Midnapore district yesterday- Sharma made a big announcement for IIT and IISc researchers. Now, the students of IIT and IISc Bengaluru will get Rs. 70,000 as monthly fellowship, under research fellowship scheme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Center will provide 2000 monthly fellowships across the students from Indian Institutes of Technology and the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru. The monthly fellowships will be provided for a time period of five years.

This scholarship will help meritorious researchers pursue their goal of doing further research but are forced to opt for corporate jobs for higher pay. Though there is specified condition that students who opt for this fellowship program, will not be allowed to do any other job. The proposal is successful and has been expected by IIT Bengaluru. IIT PhD scholarship program is expected to start from next session. Only IITs and IISc Bengaluru researchers will be eligible for this fellowship. The fellowship will be available to respective students for time span of five years.

IIT and IISc PhD 

Candidate can get admission in ‘Master of Science by Research’, IIT Bangalore if he/she holds a bachelors degree in engineering (B.Tech., B.E., or equivalent). Secondly candidate can get admission in Doctor of Philosophy programme if the candidate holds a minimum of a masters degree in engineering (an M.S. by Research/M.Sc.(Research), or M.
