Indian Railways to Soon Offer Popular Films, TV Shows in 1,300 Trains | Here’re the Details

Indian Railway passengers can now watch popular films, Tv shows on demand during their journey. Bored of traveling in trains? Now Indian Railways have come up with entertainment on demand to spice up your train journey. Boring train journeys will become stories of past and now passengers will be able to watch their favorite movies and even TV shows on their smartphones or laptops during their travel time. Modi Government has been focusing on modernizing the railways from quite long.

Entertainment in Indian Railways

Indian Railways will provide access to passengers favourite Tv shows and movies on demand during their travel time. The new strategy is likely to reduce the boredom of passengers and provide them with some source of entertainment. Rajen Gohain the minister of state Railways said that ministry has invited proposals from interesting parties for providing on board entertainment on 1300 select trains. The policy envisages a service contract for a tenure of 10 years. Indian Railways will bear a cost of about 25 lakh to equip a train with the new entertainment service- content on demand service.

Under the project of onboard entertainment will be provided only by the demand of passengers. The content on demand will be provided through pre loaded audio or video files on personal devices of passengers on 1300 trains including Shatabdi, Rajdhani express trains. Indian Railway Minister has already requested proposals for the same. Once the system gets established, passengers will be able to watch an array of popular movies, serials on their personal gadgets. For availing the on board entertainment service, passengers must have their personal laptops, mobile phones., tablets and other devices during the journey. Railways will not be investing in providing with gadgets to passengers.

Popular films, TV shows on demand in Trains (India)

Railway passengers can only enjoy the entertainment package only after paying some fixed price. Ministry will reveal different packages of movies and prices for its passengers soon. The services that will be available under the content-on-demand service would include music, games, governance, news, fashion, movies, kids shows, sports, spirituality, and lifestyle. The content will be available in Bollywood, Hollywood and in regional languages.

The public transporter aims to monetise the entertainment service based on captive eyeballs at rail premises as part of its efforts to increase its non-fare revenue from the current 5 per cent to 10-20 per cent.  Indian Railways on board entertainment service will be applicable only on demand by passengers and in high-speed trains of India.
