Immigration Counters Come Up At Chandigarh International Airport For Int. Flights

We will soon be able to see the first international flight take off from Chandigarh International Airport. The first international flight from Chandigarh Airport has been scheduled for Sharjah on 15th September and now we are observing the flares of the upcoming event. Preparations can be seen in full throttle as new counters for immigration flights have finally been set up at the airport. These new counters will only be used for international flights and are different from counters of domestic flights.

Airport officials addressed that they are officially ready for the first international flight. According to the sources, a trial run is on the cards before September 15 so that all necessary things can be checked before the actual international flight. Security has been beefed up for the purpose and other facilities would also be set up.

Counters for International Flights at Chandigarh Airport

AII (Airports Authority of India) conformed that a total of 18 counters have been set up at Chandigarh International Airport for smooth check-in of passengers boarding the international flights. Out of these 18, eight are at departure and 10 counters will be for arrival. In addition to this, two custom counters and a foreign exchange counter has also been established. Chief Executive Officer of Chandigarh International Airport Sunil Dutt said that “We are ready for the first flight and we don’t expect any issues for the international operations”.

He further stressed that there is not much of a difference to be observed between domestic and international airport. He said that the only difference between domestic and international operations is customs and immigration. Chandigarh Airport currently handles more than 20 flights a day. So, international operations will not be a difficult task.

The authorities haven’t yet installed an ATM or wifi facility in the airport premises. Along with this, proper food courts, beverages counters and food lounges are still missing. Keeping thumbs up, we suspect that after the first operational flight, these facilities will be installed soon.

Air India will have its name imprinted on the first flight from Chandigarh to Sharjah. Following up, IndiGo will have its operations start at the airport from 26 December. We expect more carriers to be lured to this first class international Airport.
