The literal meaning of the phrase ‘Chandigarh International Airport’ will finally come true as Indigo airlines have announced a direct flight from Chandigarh to Dubai. It’s not just an announcement like before, but this time, the schdule of the international flight has been set and even the sale of tickets has begun. The first flight will take off from Chandigarh International Airport in Mohali for Dubai International Airport on 26th September, 2016.
Indigo will be operating this Chandigarh – Dubai flight on a daily basis. The airplane will start from Dubai in the morning and reach Chandigarh after a journey of 3 hours and 35 minutes. After few hours, the same Indigo plane will take off from Chandigarh International Airport and and land at Dubai in the evening.
Indigo is offering an inaugural discount for a return air ticket between Chandigarh and Dubai. Tickets are being offered at Rs. 9999 per passenger for a return journey.
The introduction of international flights from Chandigarh International Airport has been a hot topic for discussion all through recent months. Even the Punjab & Haryana High Court had asked the airport authorities to start international flights as soon as possible. It was only after the court orders and intervention that the authorities and Indigo Airlines finally announced this Chandigarh Dubai direct flight on a daily basis.
With the first Chandigarh Dubai flight being introduced, more airlines are expected to join the league and introduce direct international flights to various other destinations. So it can be expected that very soon, people from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other nearby states would prefer coming to Chandigarh instead of going to New Delhi to board a flight.
Also, with Chandigarh Capitol Complex getting the World Heritage Status, the tourism in the city is going to increase and people from all over the world would be coming to Chandigarh. In this case it perfectly makes sense to introduce new international flights from the city beautiful.
