JW Marriott in Sector 35 Might be Sealed by Chandigarh MC – Here’s Why

One of the premium hotels in Chandigarh, JW Marriott, may soon have to vacate the plot. Yes, as per the report, the municipal corporation Chandigarh (MCC) has cancelled allotment of the site located in Sector 35. It has also been mentioned in the report that the owner of the land is Lok Priya Buildwell while it is currently being used by Hotel JW Marriott. The estate branch of the Chandigarh municipal corporation has cancelled the allotment of Hotel JW Marriott’s site for not paying the ground rent and tax for more than five years. The owner has not paid the rent since October 2012. The site owner has not paid the rent of around Rs 8 crore due to which the showcase notice has been issued by the SDM.

Why JW Marriott at Chandigarh may have to vacate the site?

As per the report, the estate branch of MCC has cancelled allotment of the site (Plot no: 6, Sector 35) which currently is being used for Hotel JW Marriott. The allotment has been cancelled for not paying ground tax and rent of around Rs 8 crore. It also been reported that a show cause notice has been issued by the SDM Saurabh Mishra to the site owners and occupiers seeking a reply as to why eviction should not be carried out?

As per the report, the allotment lease of the 3-acre site has already been cancelled and now Municipal Corporation Chandigarh owns the land. The site owners have been asked to appear before the estate officer and give a reply before November 21. Following the proceedings, the site occupier can be ordered to vacate the building within a fortnight.

The official spokesperson, JW Marriott, on the matter stated, “As an organisation Marriott International is cognizant of the law and will always follow the established code of conduct as per the company policies. The relevant parties will get the matter at hand resolved within themselves.”

Cancellation of the leased site allotment

The estate branch of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has issued a notice (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) under the Public Premise Act, 1971. the notice has been served on M/s Lok Priya Buildwell Pvt Ltd. The estate branch has cancelled the land lease allotment for the hotel site block number 6, Sector 35-B, Chandigarh.

Premium Hotel JW Marriott currently operates from the above-mentioned site. The municipal corporation Chandigarh’s estate branch cancelled the land lease of the owner M/s Lok Priya Buildwell Pvt Ltd day before yesterday. According to the report, the land lease has been cancelled for not paying the ground tax and rent of around Rs 7.81 crore.
