Langar at Golden Temple Amritsar to be Prepared by Solar Energy

World’s biggest community kitchen at Golden Temple, Amritsar is all set to cook Langar (food) with Solar Energy. Soon, the langar served at Golden Temple will be prepared with the help of Solar Energy. Lakhs of devotees from different countries visit Shri Harminder Sahib everyday and Langar has been served at the place, that is why it has made it to the Biggest Community Kitchen of the world.

A Mumbai-based private company will be donating the Solar Energy System at the place through Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA). At present wooden sticks and LPG are being used to prepare Langar in Shri Harminder Sahib, Amritsar.

Langar by Solar Energy at Golden Temple Amritsar

The work for the installation of Solar Energy System will soon be starting at the Golden Temple’s newly built Langar Hall (Guru Ram Das Langar Hall), Amritsar. PEDA has completed its inspection for the installation of the new system for the cooking up of Langar at the shrine. A Mumbai-based private company, namely Enpar Group, has been donating the solar energy system of Rs. 1.5 crore to the Golden Temple for the preparation of Langar using steam generated by Solar heat.

Benefits of Solar Energy System @ Golden Temple

Looking forward to the reduction of Air Pollution, PEDA will soon introduce a Solar Energy System at Golden Temple, Amritsar for the preparation of Langar for the devotees. PEDA is expecting to improve many things at the Golden Temple with the introduction of Solar Energy System for cooking up of Langar.

  • Air pollution will be reduced
  • Less time will be consumed for the preparation of Langar at Golden Temple.
  • There will be a decrease in the use of wood and LPG in the shrine in Amritsar.
  • Langar will be prepared by the steam generated by Solar heat.
  • More and more people can consume the Langar at the same time.

Earlier SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee) has introduced a system in a shrine near Golden Temple, where food has been cooked by steam, but it is not generated by Solar Energy. But, we hope this to be implemented soon at Golden Temple Amritsar, so that food can be served to more and more devotees at same time.
